Troubleshooting Missing Add-ins and Ribbon Features in Microsoft 365
If standard Microsoft 365 app features (like Add-ins, Dictate, Designer, or Translator) are missing from the ribbon across multiple devices, it is typically caused by one of two configuration issues: tenant-level Office Store restrictions or disabled Connected Experiences in the user's privacy settings.
Method 1: Verify Tenant-Level Office Store Access (Global Admins)
When access to the Office Store is disabled at the tenant level, the Add-ins tab and store buttons disappear for all users across the organization.
- Go to admin.microsoft.com and sign in with your Global Admin credentials.
- In the left-hand navigation pane, select Settings > Org settings.
- Under the Services tab, select User owned apps and services.
- Ensure the box for Let users access the Office Store is checked.
- Click Save. (Note: It may take up to 24 hours for this policy to propagate to all devices.)
Method 2: Enable Optional Connected Experiences (End Users)
Microsoft 365 applications rely on cloud services to display add-ins and dynamic features. If these privacy settings are disabled (often due to mandatory updates or compliance syncs), the features will instantly vanish.
- Open a Microsoft 365 application (e.g., Word or Excel).
- Click File in the top left, then select Account (or Office Account).
- Under the Account Privacy section, click Manage Settings.
- Scroll down to the Connected Experiences section.
- Ensure the master toggle for Turn on all connected experiences (or "Turn on optional connected experiences") is enabled.
- Click OK, then completely close and relaunch the application for the changes to take effect.
